Mind the Brain Symposium
The Mind the Brain symposium is a two-day event organised by students from the Neuroscience and Cognition master’s program of Utrecht University. It comprises posters, presentations by students, as well as several keynotes from internationally renowned scientists about interesting and contemporary topics.
This year there will also be workshops, pitches and several other activities to attend. This symposium is open to anyone interested in neuroscience. Last year the symposium welcomed around 200 visitors each day.
The theme of this year's symposium is ‘Eat Your Brain Out’. Increasing evidence indicates that dietary factors influence neuronal function through the gut microbiome. This microbiota-gut brain axis is suggested as a potential target for influencing cognitive processes and emotions, such as anxiety and depression. In the near future, food might play an important role in preventing or treating brain-related diseases, including Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, schizophrenia and autism.
